AEcoMod: Bridging a new generation of scientists Early career scientists gather in Bonn for a joint research project

The Agroecological Modelling (AEcoMod) lab hosted their partners in the EU Horizon 2020 project EarthBridge, together with a selected group of early-career scientists from the Universities of Bonn, Dresden, Bologna, and Prague. The goal of this gathering was to empower the selected participants with advanced collaborative research skills in a multi-institutional and multidisciplinary context.

Under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team of scientists from all gathering institutions, the participants developed an innovative research project focused on Krkonoše National Park of the Czech Republic. Targeting a joint publication, and with the support of remote sensing, biodiversity data, and various modelling techniques, the participants explored the impacts of climate change, tourism, and shifts in human activity on biodiversity-rich mountain meadows. Through their work, the participants gathered important networking and co-working skills and, most importantly, will contribute to research on the management of threatened mountain meadows. This will be relevant in the context of new European regulations (e.g., Nature Restoration Law) to support associated amonitoring requirements.
