BonnMu: Reverse genetic resources
Genome-wide insertional mutagenesis is a tool to create loss-of-function mutations for virtually all genes in a genome. In maize, Mutator transposons are one system used to generate insertional mutations. Sequence indexed collections of Mutator induced maize mutants are used for reverse and forward genetics experiments to identify and characterize novel mutants. Therefore, we are sequencing thousands of Mutator-tagged F2-families in various US and European inbred lines to detect transposon insertions. Our main focus is the identification of novel phenotypes with aberrant root formation. We provide maize researchers from around the globe access to this European reverse genetic resource.
