Research at INRES - Plant Nutrition
Research in the INRES - Plant Nutrition is carried out in the two professorships and in the various working groups.
Professorship for Ecophysiology of Plant Nutrition
Our research group is interested in understanding how plants perceive and respond to nutrient deficiencies and toxicities. We particularly focus on the responses to such nutrient imbalances in the presence of additional biotic and abiotic stresses, to understand how plants “decide” which of the often antagonistic pathways to trigger in order to cope with various environmental challenges.
Professorship for Plant Nutrition in the Tropics and Subtropics (PITROS)
The PITROS group researches changing rice-based production systems, element fluxes in tropical wetlands, abiotic stress physiology of rice and the dynamics and effects of invasive plant species in savanna environments.
Working Group: Abiotic stress tolerance and resource efficiency
The aim of our research is to contribute to the development of new varieties with improved adaptation to stressful environments. We approach this goal through basic research on the genetic and physiological basis of stress adaptation. In collaboration with institutions in the developing world we subsequently transfer our research findings to crop breeding and other applied sciences.
Working Group: Ion Transport and Abiotic Stress Tolerance
The aim of our research is to decipher the role of the ion transport network in plant abiotic stress tolerance. We primarily focus on ion transporters in the endomembrane system and their connection to salt and drought tolerance in the model plant Arabidopsis and the crop soybean.
