Using maize as model plant we demonstrated together with our cooperators the spatiotemporal dynamics of maize root growth and its potential effect on the assembly of the rhizosphere microbiome. Moreover, by investigation of a long-term field experiment in China we found that the applied forms of soil phosphate have dramatic effects on the microbial community structure associated with phosphate cycling.
